This is a rice dish that is traditionally prepared during Pongal or Sankranthi. It is similar to Pongal, but with a slight difference in preparation and taste.
Huggi
Ingredients
- Rice : 1 cup
- Moong Dal : 1/2 cup
- Jeera Seeds : 1 teaspoon
- Black Pepper (Coarsely ground) : 1 teaspoon
- Curry Leaves : 10 – 12 leaves
- Turmeric : 1 pinch
- Salt : to taste
- Ghee or vegan ghee substitute : 2 tablespoons
Instructions
- Fry the moong dal in a little bit of ghee for a couple of minutes to slightly warm the dal. Add the rest of the ingredients and stir to combine.
- Transfer to a pressure cooker and cook with 3 1/2 cups of water. If you want the dish to be a little softer, add some more water and stir for a couple more minutes.
- Top with ghee and serve immediately.
